The property history
The front part of the property dates to the 15th Century. It was originally 2 houses with a narrow lane running between them (which is now our long entrance hallway). The lane joined the river at the front of the house to the canal at the rear. The ground floors of both the original properties housed the animals and the families lived on the floors above.
The 4 stories at the rear of the house, which are now joined to the front by the long hallway and separated by a Moroccan style courtyard, are around 150 years old. Originally built as a shoe and hat making factory.
There is a garden to the rear of the house, a balcony to the 1st floor apartment and a roof terrace, overlooking the Pyrenees mountains.
The 3rd floor of the ‘factory’ part of the house is an open plan studio space. This is where Dave paints in the off season and holds his morning Yoga classes during the cycling season.
The ground floor of the ‘factory’ is Dave’s bike workshop and bike storage area. It’s also where Dave holds bike maintenance classes and ‘Spin’ sessions during inclement weather.
